My wife and I recently traveled to Israel with Governor Mike Huckabee and his family on their annual pilgrimage. Although the civil unrest in Egypt began about a week before our arrival, our personal security was never an issue. The warm friendliness of the Israeli people and the biblical and historical significance of Israel to the nations of the world made this a remarkable and life-changing adventure.
Our tour guide, Steve, is an American from Philadelphia, PA, who emigrated to Israel at the age of 24, sixteen years ago. Steve served three years in the Israeli Defense Force and is currently finishing his PhD at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem on the Biblical History of the Second Temple Era. Using his incredible knowledge of both History and The Bible, Steve turned each place we visited into “Living History” relevant to modern times.
On The Freedom Forum, Steve and I will discuss the justification for the existence of Israel, its history, current threats to its security, and what options Israeli leadership might have to protect the country and its citizens from harm and to insure Israel’s continued existence.
While we were in Jerusalem, we had the opportunity to hear Moshe Ya’alon, Vice Prime Minister, speak about the recent impact of the unrest in Egypt and other Middle Eastern Countries, as well as Israel’s relationship with America and the Obama administration. We also heard from Danny Danon, Deputy Knesset Speaker, who supports a three-state Palistinian solution: Israel, Egypt and Jordan.
