The Devil Came Down to Georgia

The right to own property that cannot be arbitrarily regulated or confiscated by the government is the moral and constitutional basis for individual freedom.  Ownership of private property by individuals in all forms creates personal financial security and is the anathema of totalitarian government. The first plank of Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto, however, is “abolition of private property in land and the application of all rents of land to public purposes.” 

The United Nations was founded to promote socialist one world governance.  American traitors like Alger Hiss wrote the original UN charter, which included organizational mechanisms to achieve world socialism by authorizing excessive voting power for the communist nations.  The ruling Security Council had five permanent members each with veto power by a single vote – China, the Soviet Union, France, Great Britain, and the USA.  The United Nations rapidly became an international forum opposing national borders, private property rights, free market economy, and individual freedom promoted by America and its allies.         

In 1992, the UN initiated Agenda 21, its major coordinated program to achieve control of planet earth.  The staged implementation of Agenda 21 was designed to reorganize every aspect of human life, replacing the Natural Law Rights of individuals with community rights granted by UN authority.  Earth’s human population would be severely reduced and those left alive would be forced to live in highly regulated densely populated cities in which food, healthcare, travel, entertainment, and justice were administered by the United Nations. 

As expected, there was intense opposition to the UN Agenda 21 plan in our nation.  A proposed map, The Wildlands Treaty Map, showed most of the US land mass designated as “non-human” zones with scattered small enclaves for human residents.  To circumvent opponents of Agenda 21, President Clinton issued Executive Order #12852 creating the President’s Council on Sustainable Development.  Of the thirty-two members on the Council, twelve were from Federal Agencies controlled by Democrats and eight were from private well-funded liberal environmental organizations that are still active today. 

Bill Clinton’s Executive Order 12852 enabled all of the environmental, social, financial, and climate change programs enacted by our government to support the U.N. Agenda 21.  These are the key elements of the UN plan:

• Climate protection policy is fundamentally linked to any national agenda for economic growth, environmental protection, and social justice
• Green infrastructure, land use and development, community revitalization and reinvestment, rural enterprise and community development, and materials reuse and resource efficiency
• develop a national strategy to address changes in national population distribution with negative impacts on sustainable development
• Maurice Strong, under-secretary-general of the United Nations said, “Isn’t the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn’t it our responsibility to bring that about?”
• A Presidential Executive Order becomes the source for policy agendas, rules, and regulations created by federal and state bureaucracies. States enact statutes and policies to receive Federal grants based on those regulations

All of these initiatives are designed to eliminate private property.  Government can steal your land with regulations, taxation, eminent domain, and outright theft.  Abuse of the Antiquities Act of 1906, for example, is responsible for stealing millions of acres of private land from the public.  The Act requires the land taken to be only as much as that needed to protect and service the antiquity itself.  In recent years, the feds have confiscated millions of acres that far exceeded that legal limit. The US Forest Service is another government agency actively engaged in restricting land from public use for recreation, hunting, fishing, and timber harvesting.

The United Nations is engaged in similar activity with the open approval of local and federal government through the UNESCO program that identifies “World Heritage Sites”.  There are now twenty “United Nations World Heritage Sites” in the United States.  Among those sites are:

• The Statue of Liberty
• Independence Hall in Philadelphia
• Monticello – Thomas Jefferson’s home
• Great Smoky Mountains National Park
• The Everglades in Florida
• Yellowstone National Park
• The Grand Canyon National Park
• Yosemite National Park

The involvement of the United Nations creates the impression of an international “holiness” that requires special protections and limitations. The UN presence allows environmental activists to secure standing at negotiations as stakeholders, an ambiguous and amorphous term designed to blur distinctions between owner and spectator and citizen and outsider. 

In 1989, the proposed New World Mine near Yellowstone Park was opposed by environmental activists as a threat to the Yellowstone ecosystem. Fourteen environmental groups petitioned UNESCO to investigate the threat and designate Yellowstone Park as a World Heritage site. Without a complete investigation, the UN World Heritage Committee was able to call the Yellowstone Park “in danger” which pressured the mine owners to relocate the mine to an alternate site. 

The United Nations is now attempting to take control over the Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge in South Georgia by designating it a World Heritage Site. The proponents of this action claim that it will boost tourism, create jobs for the local economy, and better protect the Wildlife Refuge. In the agreement, however, there is a proposed buffer zone that could result in the taking of private property.

On the surface, it could be argued that a “World Heritage Site” designation is a harmless gesture of respect.  In fact, it is a good example of an international organization meddling in legal and regulatory matters that rightfully fall under the purview of local and federal governmental authority.  Worse yet, it gives an unconstitutional voice to international conspirators whose primary aim is the elimination of national borders and the destruction of our country.

In his report on the “The Yellowstone Affair“, Jeremy Rabkin summarized the truth about this UN agenda:

“It may be argued that programs of this kind, even if they do little good, still do no great harm. What they do is nurture a kind of alternate reality. It is mostly a fantasy world and as such does not impinge very often or very directly on the real world. But fantasies can evolve into settled delusions and delusions can carry people – and governments – in very foolish directions. At the very least, these programs are a threat to the clarity of law.

If programs like the World Heritage Convention and the Biosphere Network are symbolic, they are symbols of an outlook that imagines we can have regulation without law, obligation without enforcement, agreement without compromise, protection without possession – and a world without borders. We can dismiss these programs as symbols. But they symbolize visions which, if taken seriously, would be quite dangerous.”

Dr. Dan’s guest on Freedom Forum Radio this weekend is Travis Sanctuary, the leader of a citizens’ group in South Georgia organizing his fellow citizens and local governments against the United Nations’ attempt to expand and take over administrative control of the Okefenokee.  Sanctuary believes that the United Nations, UNESCO and the World Heritage programs in general are, by their own words, incompatible with our Constitution and with God’s word.

Aided by numerous government entities, private individuals, and NGOs with heavy financial support by environmental activists, an application for World Heritage Site designation has already been sent to the US Department of the Interior.  Submission to UNESCO is pending.
