The Bitter Fruit of Group Identity

Communities and nations whose citizens are bound by a commonality of purpose, philosophy, and origin have the best chance to achieve long term stability.  For centuries, the nations of the “Old World” retained specific identities based on language, geography, and customs in spite of continental migration and numerous wars.

America was the exception.  Geographically separated by two oceans from the “Old World”, the “New World” became home to immigrants searching for economic and social freedom.  Individualism, our nation’s philosophy and the foundation of our legal and governmental system, was the glue that held society together.  Our founding documents, the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and The Bill of Rights guaranteed those individual freedoms to the people.

America of that era was referred to the “Melting Pot”.  The different flavors of immigrants from all over the world melted together and created a fondue of unique essence.  The individual ingredients, however, could not be distinguished or separated from the whole.  The concepts of equal justice under law and equal opportunity but not equal outcomes are derived from the constitutional guarantee to protect and secure the Natural Law Rights of every individual, even a minority of one.

Our founders could only hope to constrain, by the protections contained in our Constitution, the greed and lust for power that inevitably drives the ambitions of tyrants.    When humanity’s deeds are controlled by honesty and morality, everyone benefits equally from the policies of government, as originally intended by the “general welfare” clause in the Constitution.  In the absence of basic morality, votes are purchased by the promise of benefits to some at the expense of others.  The government cannot give you anything that it does not first steal from someone else.

While giving actual cash to individual voters is blatantly illegal, promises of funds or benefits through future legislation is the common modus operandi of the professional political class.  To be most effective, these offers must be pledged to groups of voters identified as victims of some egregious persecution and who are, therefore, entitled to receive reparations from society.  Since monies for these programs must come from taxpayers outside the recipient group, i.e. the provider group, the melting pot scenario no longer satisfied the career essentials of our elected officials.

America, therefore, has now become a salad bowl.  Each ingredient, while part of the entire salad, can be assigned to a specific group.  A legislator seeking reelection chooses to take something of value from one vegetable group and vows to give the proceeds to vegetables of a larger group.  For example, speaking to the tomatoes, the candidate would blame the white onions for the foul smell, suggest that the tomatoes deserve more credit for the salad’s taste, and promise to reward the tomato group members for being a critically important part of the salad.  The white onions, recognizing that they have been unfairly accused and penalized, reprimand the peppers for the foul smell, and begin a media campaign against all tomatoes for their skin color.  Other vegetable groups soon become involved, and, feeling either entitled or aggrieved, begin taking sides.  The anger and hostility quickly rises, the salad has become deeply divided, and the food fight begins.  Only the politician who caused the entire disaster reaps the rewards.

A century ago, H. L Mencken described this process of government:

The government consists of a gang of men exactly like you and me. They have, taking one with another, no special talent for the business of government; they have only a talent for getting and holding office. Their principal device to that end is to search out groups who pant and pine for something they can’t get and to promise to give it to them. Nine times out of ten that promise is worth nothing. The tenth time is made good by looting A to satisfy B. In other words, government is a broker in pillage, and every election is sort of an advance auction sale of stolen goods.

Aggravated and abetted by a biased media and the political elite, the citizens of our nation are now divided, usually without their consent, into identity groups based on identifiable characteristics used to serve a political agenda. At its worst, guilt for the misdeeds and sins of any single group member is forced upon all group members whose unified apology and punishment are demanded. This is the very antithesis of our inseparable founding concepts of individual freedom and personal responsibility.

To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, a tossed salad divided against itself will not taste good enough to be eaten.  The elite globalists have funded and promoted group identity and fostered an entitlement mentality among the fictitiously aggrieved to incite civil unrest and anarchy.  Their purpose is to cause the collapse of the American economy and society to the point at which a sheep-like and cowardly populace will demand that a totalitarian-style central “government authority” restore order.

As the Constitution is disregarded, our Natural Law Rights cast aside, and we are imprisoned in a collectivist nightmare, the arrogant elitists, whose lives are not affected by the socialist misery they would impose on us, are laughing and rejoicing at the inauguration of the New World Order.

They are the enemies of individual freedom and the true tyrants of the modern world.
