The Pandemic Dictatorship

All of us are afraid of death.  Even those who have faith and believe in an afterlife of Heaven and Hell, fear the end of their own lives, at least to some degree.  When faced directly with our own mortality and after going through the well-publicized five phases of grief, most fantasize about and possibly even do some pretty strange and irrational things.  We could call that a type of temporary insanity, a momentary lapse of reason.

There are members of our society, however, that routinely exhibit a total inability to assess facts and reach logical decisions, which is an integral part of their psychological nature.  In fact, that pathology forces them to support concepts based on illogical emotion rather than the constitutional principles that protect individual freedoms.  Since we have come to expect that type of thinking from some, we should not be surprised that the solutions they desire are unworkable, irresponsible, arrogant, and designed to further their elitist agenda to control the lives of others.

The threat of severe illness and possible death from the Covid-19 Virus is most definitely real and not to be taken lightly.  Nevertheless, the risk has been sensationalized, politicized, and purposefully distorted by politicians and the biased media to serve their political agendas.  This has allowed governments at all levels to use a medical crisis to restrict the freedom of citizens in an unwarranted and oppressive manner.  With adaptive techniques such as social distancing, hand washing, and wearing protective gear, it would have been possible for most businesses to continue operating in a sufficiently safe manner.

Unfortunately, in the current national state of apprehension, otherwise sensible people appear to have lost the ability to think and act rationally.  What is truly frightening and disconcerting is how quickly and without argument or deliberation so many of us are willingly giving up the constitutional rights that differentiate our nation from the dictatorships we condemn.

Federal and state government edicts have restricted freedom of speech, the free exercise of religion, protection against unreasonable searches and seizures, and the right to peaceably assemble to petition the government for a redress of grievances.  In addition, the forced closure of businesses arbitrarily deemed “unnecessary”, the compulsory incarceration of people in their homes, and travel restrictions using police roadblocks, road closures, and demands for identity papers all violate the right not to be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law.  There is even a suggestion that proof of virus immunity could be used to allow people to work, a population control technique reminiscent of tyrannical governments.

To put today’s events in proper perspective, consider these facts:

  1. Sudden cardiac arrest, the most common cause of natural death in the United States, results in about 325,000 adult deaths in the United States each year.
  2. Smoking cigarettes is the cause of over 480,000 deaths every year in the United States
  3. Drug overdose deaths in the US have now reached approximately 70,000 each year
  4. 40% of all hospital beds in the United States are used to treat conditions related to alcohol consumption and abuse

In spite of all these catastrophic medical and social problems with a death rate far greater than any viral illness, no government has ever shut down the entire national economy to solve these issues.

As a result, the America of today is no longer a constitutional republic.  We have now become a Pandemic Dictatorship in which the people are ruled by a panel of government-designated “experts” and appointed bureaucrats whose edicts disregard our constitutionally protected rights.

The Bill of Rights is the contract by which the federal government is required to protect and secure the enumerated rights of each sovereign state and of each one of its sovereign citizens.  When our government and judicial system are allowed unilaterally to suspend the individual freedoms and the Due Process requirements in the Bill of Rights to achieve a political agenda, we are no longer a nation of laws.  We are, in fact, no better than the dictatorships, past and present, whose violations of human rights we now decry.

Restrictions on commerce and business inevitably lead to shortages of food and other necessities.  As the expected social unrest, looting, and violent crime increases, the need for personal protection will be essential.  The globalists have never hidden their outright hatred of the 2nd Amendment and their determination to eliminate the private ownership of guns.  The 2nd Amendment is the most powerful and important tool that We the People possess for self-protection and to secure our freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights.  Without the 2nd Amendment, the rest of the Constitution is just words on paper.  For that reason, our 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms is constantly in the crosshairs of the collectivist elite.

The overriding issue was clearly stated by Ben Franklin.

“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”

The lives and fortunes of millions of hard-working Americans and small business owners are being destroyed by the draconian and unconstitutional restrictions placed on the American people.  No government, at any level, can be allowed to unilaterally abolish the Bill of Rights and, thereby, sacrifice the life and liberty of all to potentially save a few.  Our nation is rapidly approaching the point of no return.  It is time for the unconstitutional rule by unelected bureaucrats to be ended and for the rights of the people to be restored.

The ends do not justify the means.
