January 6 “Praying Grandma Pardoned”

Rebecca Lavrenz, the “Praying Grandma”, attended the January 6th Trump rally in Washington DC. After the rally, she entered the Capitol without any opposition from law enforcement, prayed for America in the Rotunda, and left the building. She spent only ten minutes inside the Capitol, damaged nothing, performed no violent acts, and had no encounter with law enforcement personnel.

Nevertheless, more than one year after January 6, 2021, Rebecca Lavrenz was arrested, tried, and convicted of four misdemeanors. She was sentenced to what might appear to be the harshest and largest misdemeanor penalty in U.S. history:

• 12 months’ probation
• 6 months house arrest with an ankle bracelet
• 6 months ban from using the internet for any purpose
• Government spyware installed on her computer and mobile phone
• Restitution in the amount of $500 and $103,000 in fines

A quick internet search produced numerous accounts of serious crimes against persons, including rape, sexual assault, and murder, in which the guilty parties received far lighter sentences the Rebecca Lavrenz.

In 2021, for example, a New York man received no jail time after pleading guilty to rape and sexual assault of four teenage girls.

In San Francisco, a man convicted of stabbing a 94-year-old woman multiple times was sentenced by a judge only to probation.

The Eighth Amendment prohibits the imposition of excessive bail, fines, and cruel and unusual punishments. The implication was that penalties imposed in sentencing and conditions in prisons would be proportional in severity to the crimes committed.

The definition of “cruel and unusual punishments” has been a point of legal contention. In 1958, the Supreme Court under Chief Justice Earl Warren established the concept of evolving standards of decency that mirrors the current philosophy of American society. In defining an evolving standard of decency, courts evaluate whether the punishment imposes unnecessary or gratuitous pain and whether its severity is commensurate with that of the crime.

The US Constitution grants people the right peacefully to protest and seek redress of grievances without fear of reprisals and loss of Due Process rights. In dictatorships, however, the government has no obligation to uphold the Natural Law Rights of any individual and will engage in any behavior, moral or immoral, to retain power. Once you become suspected of crimes against the government, there is no “Bill of Rights” to protect you.

There are conflicting opinions about exactly what occurred near and inside the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Recent investigations even raise the possibility that government agencies incited and abetted the events at the Capitol. Some arrests were undoubtedly valid, but many were not justified and represent a gross overreach of police power. Of greater concern is that many non-violent demonstrators and even event attendees were arrested and held for months without specified charges and without bail. This constitutes an undeniable and unconstitutional abuse of Due Process and Habeas Corpus rights.

When our government and judicial system is allowed to unilaterally suspend the Habeas Corpus and Due Process requirements in the Constitution and Bill of Rights to achieve a political agenda, we are no longer a “Nation of Laws”. We are, in fact, no better than the dictatorships, past and present, whose violations of human rights we now condemn.

For the past four years, our country has been ruled by the Biden-Obama-Global Elite Cartel with their agenda of redistribution of wealth, theft of private property, loss of individual freedom, and loss of our national sovereignty.

By the Grace of God, Donald Trump was re-elected President of the United States on November 5, 2024. One of his first acts after inauguration was to pardon the January 6 non-violent “offenders”.

Rebecca Lavrenz went to Washington, D.C. believing God had chosen her to pray for our country and to put action to her faith. Of course, she did not know that God would also lead her to carry His presence into the Capitol building itself on January 6.

Rebecca Lavrenz is an American patriot and a woman of profound faith. The significance of her actions on January 6th will not be diminished by her sentence and eventual pardon. She stands far above the offensive verdicts of the spiteful tyrants and biased judiciary who imposed them on her.
